Right now we need to feel good and move for change more than ever, therefore I took on a personal challenge to dance every day in December and invited my community to join in, too! Daily mindful movement, even just a little or whatever you can manage, brings awareness, improves mood, and can have positive health, mental health, and other transformative impacts. Whether you've got one minute or all day, there's a way for you to participate and benefit. During December, I posted these clips from my explorations on social media (Instagram, TikTok, where I shared my Alphabet Superset Micro Choreo Videos, and Facebook) with various pieces of music available there, and this compilation is presented with a different piece from YouTube, synchronistically named "Wolf Moon," resulting in a multi-music experiment! We moved mindfully and joyfully through the winter holidays and into 2025, but you can take the challenge and repeat as desired at any time of year. Such a daily creative dance practice is accessible to all abilities and experience levels. Be amazed at the far-reaching impacts such a practice can have in your life. December BuJo Review - 2024 Month 12 Creative Journal Flip
This is a "lineup" of nearly all the analog notebooks, planners, and journals that I use on a regular basis. Notebooks and stationery organize my coaching, teaching, and creative life in a way that is fully custom, personalized, and inspiring. My analog and digital planning, journaling, note-taking, and memory-keeping system is fairly stable as I've been figuring out what works best for my life and process, but there are adjustments here and there. Particularly where it comes to supplies, changes have come because late in 2024 I picked up a new hobby, fountain pens, inks, and paper friendly to their use. Poetic Inspiration from _365 Poems for Life_ "The Day is Done" by Longfellow
Having been foiled in my prior "New Inks Old Pens - Creatively Coping" and "Hot Mess Post-Election Ink Play" videos in trying to ink up Ela's fiery vintage Parker Vector, I wanted to film this follow-up video, the exciting conclusion to this un-intentional three-part series. I finally was successful in loading a Parker slide converter with Octopus Fluids Write & Draw Ink in Red Turtle and write with it in the Parker fountain pen, a gift she received from her grandma along with it's twin the ballpoint version back in the 90's. Recent notebooks from Rhodia, Canson, and Brunnen where I'm playing with my pens and ink are also featured, as well as my gorgeous new Hobonichi A5 pencil board. Take a Deep Breath Yoga Break - 5 Minute Refresh, Grounding & Get Present with Mindful Movement
Having been foiled by a non-compatible ink converter in my prior "New Inks Old Pens - Creatively Coping" video, I wanted to film this follow-up video update where I actually try out my new Octopus Fluids Write & Draw Ink in Red Turtle using a blunt syringe to refill a cartridge for my Peony Blossom Kaweco Perkeo fountain pen. New Inks Old Pens - Creatively coping with stress and anxiety - Octopus Fluids Tropen Kaweco Parker
Feel-good stretching, here standing at the barre (can also stretch while seated or reclining), is an important part of my Fall routine! The musical accompaniment is a little bit autumnal, a little Halloween-y, so also seemed to suit the seasonal mood. In this video I demonstrate a typical full-body stretch routine of all the major muscle groups as I might do to get centered and mobile for class, without verbal cues or detailed instruction. At this point in the day, I had already been up and about, done a bit of warming up and physical therapy, but needed some targeted stretching and relaxation before teaching afternoon ballet classes. This is just what feels good to me and some of the things that work to prepare for the work I do as a Teaching Artist, Dance Educator and Coach. Your needs will most certainly vary, ultimately warming up and stretching before class is a very personal and intuitive process. Simple Standing Supported Stretch - Moving to Music at Barre, Preparing for Ballet No-Instruction
Lifelong learner and curious forever student that I am, the journey of reading & writing, absorbing new information and perspectives, and honing skills is endless. Pen Friends - Inky Adventures in Writing - Personal History of Writing Utensils of a Creative Coach
I'm in a dance shoe identity crisis! Not really, though it is an ongoing exploration as my knowledge of dance styles grows, my body and style change and evolve. Folks often ask why I wear socks to teach and dance much of the time these days, and what they themselves should wear to beginner ballet or other styles of dance classes. This year I've been studying Argentine Tango for the first time, and that requires different considerations in terms of footwear, due to the type of flooring and the technique. I've recently been sharing my creative supplies and EDC/Everyday Carry essentials, so along those lines, here is an informal chat with more information about what dance shoes I regularly use and what is appropriate for a first movement class for adults or children.
